Climate

Here are some tips for packing for a trip to Australia:

Australia has a diverse climate ranging from tropical in the north to temperate and Mediterranean in the south. In general, summers (December to February) are hot and humid, while winters (June to August) are mild to cool.

Pack lightweight, breathable clothes like cotton, linen or synthetic blends. Shorts, tshirts, tank tops and sandals are good choices.

Bring swimwear and lightweight pants and longsleeved shirts for sun protection. A widebrimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are essential.

Bring a jacket for cooler evenings, especially in southern and inland areas. Temperatures in the outback can drop significantly at night, even in summer.

Pack comfortable walking shoes or sneakers. You‘ll likely do a lot of walking, especially if sightseeing in cities.

Australia has unpredictable weather at times, so you may want a waterresistant windbreaker or light rain jacket. An umbrella could also be useful.

Consider packing convertible clothes like sarongs or scarves that can be used as shawls. They take up little space but provide versatility.

Don‘t forget basics like a money belt, travel towels, packs of tissues and hand sanitizer. These can be useful additions to your luggage.
